The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo, has said being home in Bolgatanga makes him passionate and emotional following the support he has had even at a time when he was not known in politics.
According to the two-term lawmaker, he has had the support of the people of Bolgatanga over the years despite emerging as a complete novice in the game of politics, and at a time he was not in a way, known to the people of the constituency.
Speaking during a unity walk held in the constituency on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Bolgatanga dubbed movement for Victory 2024, Mr. Adongo noted that returning home to Bolgatanga comes with a certain nostalgia following the support given him over the years.
In 2015, Isaac Adongo, emerged in the political scene in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency and the Upper East Region having contested the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He went on to beat the then MP, Akolbire Opam Brown in the internal elections and subsequently defeated his major contender Rex Asanga in the 2016 elections.
The MP since joining parliament has been loud on issues of national interest largely bothering the economy. This has seen him present lectures and speak on the floor of parliament as though has for long been in the house as a legislator though this has often been met with heavy criticism as some say he is not seen working in the constituency.
Addressing the gathering after the unity walk, Mr. Adongo explained that he does not take the support given to him for granted.
“When I come to Bolga, I’m very passionate and emotional. I’m passionate and emotional because in 2015 when I emerged on the scene, nobody knew me. Nobody knew I would be the Isaac Adongo of today but you gave me a chance and I don’t take that for granted at all. I am trying to do the best that I can.”
Responding to the criticism of not doing much for the constituency, the MP says he has done many things for the constituency without going on the radio to make noise about them.
“I constructed three CHIPS compounds in three areas. I have one center in Kalbeo, Yonkoko, and one in Tindonmolgo and I am happy to announce that my efforts with some donors in Germany will lead to the supply of some medical equipment. I also have a request for a number of boreholes and I have secured funds to construct 14 new boreholes I have always said that when it comes to my constituency, I don’t talk. I act. I worked at the health center in Sumbrungu so you can be on the radio saying whatever you want but when I go to the communities, they thank me for what I have done.” He stressed.
