I have a problem with the faith-based communities that, while encouraging us to enlarge our territories and build momentum, neglect to instill the core values of compassion, kindness, and understanding. We are raising individuals who are adept at climbing the ladder of success but are often ill-equipped to reach out a hand to those in need. The sermons that resound with promises of prosperity and blessings can sometimes drown out the quiet, yet urgent, call to love our neighbors and care for the vulnerable among us.
This dissonance creates a troubling gap a chasm between our aspirations and our responsibilities. In our pursuit of personal gain, we risk treating others as mere stepping stones on our journey, commodifying relationships and reducing human beings to their utility. The very essence of our faith, which should guide us towards generosity and service, is being overshadowed by a culture of self-interest.
We must ask ourselves: What does it mean to truly live in faith? Is it simply about achieving our goals, or is it about embodying the principles of love, humility, and service? We are called to be stewards of our communities, to uplift those around us, and to recognize that our true wealth lies not in what we accumulate, but in how we impact the lives of others.
Let us not be content with a faith that celebrates individual success at the expense of our collective humanity. Let us strive to create a narrative that balances ambition with compassion, that encourages us to build not just our own empires but also a more just and caring world. It is time to reclaim the essence of our faith one that champions humanity, fosters connection, and inspires us to serve rather than to sell.
