Known as the Afrikids Ghana Alumni, a group of past beneficiaries of charity organization, Afrikids Ghana, who are into various professions, businesses, and trade areas, have donated a television set to the kids’ ward of the Afrikids Hospital in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region.
Apart from the donation, the group embarked on a cleanup exercise at the hospital and its immediate surroundings as part of saying thank you to Afrikids Ghana and giving back to society for the support they had received that eventually transformed their lives.
The Afrikids Alumni are beneficiaries of the various interventions by Afrikids, who have grown into responsible people and are serving in diverse areas.
Some of these beneficiaries benefited from interventions such as Fresh Start, Educational Scholarship, and skills training.
The beneficiaries who have formed the alumni are numbering close to 100. The gesture by the alumni mirrors Afrikids Ghana’s desire to make a life-long impact in the lives of people and to put smiles on their faces.
Speaking to the media, Linda Dotse, a midwife and President of the Afrikids Alumni, explained that the donation is to make the kids comfortable during their period of admission at the facility.
She disclosed that a pen drive loaded with kids’ material has been added to the TV to keep the children excited.
The Alumni President called on other beneficiaries of the interventions by Afrikids Ghana to give back to society.
“We are a beneficiary group of various initiatives by Afrikids. In the case of some of us, it had to do with the payment of fees, others’ skills training, and others. We decided to do a cleanup at the hospital and to present a TV, and we added a drive with child-friendly materials to help the children stay excited while they receive care. So, we are calling on all beneficiaries to join us, and let’s give back to society just like Afrikids has given us,” she said.
The Manager of the Afrikids Hospital, Godfred Njidan thanked the alumni network for the thoughtfulness in giving back to the facility.
“When I heard about their initiative, I was so glad because it is very rare for people who receive support to return to equally support others. The cleanup exercise and the TV came at the right time and will reduce the cost of operations because we were preparing to vote funds to buy a new TV,” he stated.
