An entrepreneur in the Upper East Region is urging young job seekers to rethink their approach to employment and embrace entrepreneurship, saying private sector success depends on discipline, long-term commitment, and practical skills.

Benjamin Anyanah, CEO of BC Bencyn Group, said on Dreamz FM’s The State of Our Nation programme that attitudes toward work, particularly expectations of short-term employment, are undermining business growth and productivity.

He said he rejects job applicants who indicate they are seeking temporary work or “small-small” jobs while waiting for better opportunities, arguing that such thinking signals a lack of vision.

“If you tell me you want to do small-small while waiting, I will not employ you,” he said. “It shows you do not want to grow with the business.”

Mr Anyanah said retirement and job stability should not discourage people from remaining economically active, adding that continuous engagement helps maintain productivity and well-being.

He also criticized the belief that government jobs are more desirable than private sector opportunities, saying many people overlook viable business prospects in agriculture, trade, and small enterprise development.

He urged young people to consider starting small businesses and building them gradually, rather than waiting for formal employment or large capital investments.
