George Abradu-Otoo, Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, says food supply to senior high schools has significantly improved, as he begins a two-day working visit to Ghana’s Upper East Region.

Speaking on Dreamz FM’s Breakfast Today, Abradu-Otoo said headteachers across schools visited expressed satisfaction with the availability of food, noting that many now have enough stock to last through the academic year.

“For the first time in many years, headmasters and headmistresses go home without worrying about what students will eat the next day,” he said.

The CEO said his visit is focused on inspecting warehouses to ensure they are suitable for storing food reserves under proper conditions. He stressed that effective storage infrastructure is critical to the company’s mandate of maintaining national food reserves.

Mr Abradu-Otoo added that while non-perishable food supplies such as rice and grains are stable, challenges with perishables like tomatoes and onions stem from delayed funding to school authorities, not NAFCO.

He said government has since released funds to address those gaps, easing concerns raised by school administrators.
