The Chief of Digari in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, Naab Ibrahim Boarebon, has called on security agencies to take appropriate measures following intelligence that the Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI) may be planning to mobilize unidentified individuals from across the region to infiltrate a planned protest and incite disturbances.

In a letter addressed to TAMCI leadership and copied to the Upper East Regional Minister, the Tongraan, the Regional Police Commander, the Commanding Officer of the 11 Mechanized Battalion in Bolgatanga, and the Talensi District Chief Executive, and intercepted by Dreamz News, the Chief expressed concern that TAMCI’s planned demonstration scheduled between May 8 and 10, 2026, could escalate social vices at a time when the state is making concerted efforts to curb them.

The Chief noted that TAMCI has been barred from organizing or carrying out any form of demonstration on the lands of Digaare and its adjoining communities, citing the group’s disruptive conduct and divisive demands during a previous demonstration on August 30, 2025.

He disclosed that the mining company, Cardinal Namdini Mining LTD (CNML) and the Talensi Mine communities are on the verge of signing a mutually beneficial Social Responsibility Agreement after two years of negotiations. He warned that TAMCI’s activities have consistently disrupted the smooth progress of these negotiations and “pose a serious threat to the peace, stability, and unity of the Talensi area”.

The Chief urged the youth of Talensi to remain law-abiding and forward-thinking, emphasizing that sustainable development and employment lie in the acquisition of relevant skills and positive engagement, not in road protests or acts of hostility. He cautioned that no responsible company will employ individuals associated with violence or disruptive behavior.

He also criticized TAMCI leaders, many of whom are employed outside the Talensi area, for demanding the dismissal of CNML employees on the basis that they are not indigenes. He stressed that Ghana is one nation and unity, fairness, and coexistence regardless of origin must be embraced.

The Chief concluded by calling on TAMCI to desist from any activities that may incite unrest or division within the communities, urging them to allow the ongoing negotiations to reach a successful conclusion for the benefit of all.
