The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, has directed the Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to immediately halt and discontinue all auction sales pending the completion of ongoing investigations.
The Special Prosecutor in a Press Release issued Monday, 22nd August 2022 noted that his outfit had commenced investigations into what he described as suspected corruption and corrupt-related offenses in respect of auction sales of vehicles.
The investigation spans auction sales done between 1st July 2016 and 15th August 2022.
The SP, therefore, demanded the Commissioner of the Customs Division to produce the particulars and clear descriptions of all auctioned items, the quantity of all auctioned items, the prices at which the items were auctioned, the date of each auction sales and the full names, addresses, and telephone numbers of the successful bidders at all the auction sales on or before September 30, 2022.
With Mr. Agyabeng’s directive, no auction sales can be done until investigations are completed.
“The Special Prosecutor further directed the Commissioner of the Customs Division to immediately halt and discontinue all auction sales till the investigation is completed,” the press release captured.

This comes in the wake of incessant complaints by Ghanaians over how imported vehicles are sometimes deliberately impounded and sold at cheaper prices to other individuals instead of allowing the original owners to pay the duty based on favorable payment arrangements.
