Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is urging former flagbearer aspirant of the party, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to contest the 2024 Elections as an independent candidate.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said Mr. Kyerematen is a better candidate than all those seeking the Office of president and is likely to drum up massive support for his bid if he contest the elections.
“When I look at those who want to be president of the country at the moment, he (Alan Kyerematen) is the only one who stands tall amongst them. He is the only one I can say have got democratic credentials. He is the only one I believe strongly a lot of people, if he intends running as an independent candidate, will definitely like to try him,” he stated.
He is, thus, urging the former Trade and Minister to test his national popularity by contesting the 2024 Elections as independent candidate.
“He should go and test his popularity by standing as an independent candidate”.
He said this in interview on TV3 while reacting to Mr. Kyerematen’s withdrawal from the flagbearer contest of the party.
The former Trades Minister, in statement yesterday, cited bias, intimidation of delegates and attacks on his supporters in the just ended Super Delegates Conference of the party as reasons for his decision to pull out of the race.
But Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, in reaction, accused president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of stabbing Mr. Kyerematen on the back.
He argued that the NPP has a well defined order of succession which recognises long service and seniority in the elections of leaders thus, Mr. Kyerematen should have been made handed the party’s leadership since he is next in line.
But president Akufo-Addo, he stated, thwarted his bid to lead the party, resulting in his withdrawal.
He also blamed Mr. Kyerematen for not resigning from his position in the government earlier.
According to him, the former Trades Minister would not have found himself in his current predicament if had earlier disassociated himself from the government.
“If I were Alan, I would have resigned on principle and things would have been easier for him today but he has got the style of my friend J. A Kufuor. He goes about it gently”.
