Johnson Ayine, a member of the NPP communications team, has urged local authorities to improve stakeholder engagement and consultation before undertaking development projects in communities.

Speaking on Dreamz FM, Mr Ayine said many disputes surrounding demolitions and road construction projects stem from poor communication and a lack of trust between residents and public officials.

He argued that assemblies and planning authorities should make better use of local radio stations and traditional leadership structures to educate residents about development plans before implementation begins.

According to Mr Ayine, chiefs and traditional leaders remain influential in many communities and should be actively involved in discussions regarding land acquisition, road demarcation and other development initiatives.

He said bypassing traditional authorities often creates unnecessary resistance and misunderstandings among residents.

Mr Ayine referenced recent tensions in parts of Bolgatanga East, where some residents opposed demolition exercises linked to road development projects, suggesting that earlier engagement could have minimized the conflict.

He further expressed concern about public perceptions that planning decisions can be influenced by wealth and political connections, saying such beliefs have weakened trust in public institutions.

Mr Ayine called for transparency, regular public education and stronger collaboration between assemblies, traditional authorities and residents to ensure that development projects receive community support.

He maintained that development efforts are more successful when communities are consulted and made to understand the benefits and implications of proposed projects before implementation.
