The Talensi District Chief Executive, John Millim Nabwomya, has led the District Assembly in observing Green Ghana Day by planting trees within the Assembly premises.
The tree-planting exercise brought together the District Coordinating Director, heads of departments and agencies including the Forestry Department, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, Department of Agriculture, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, Assembly staff, and other stakeholders. All participants planted trees to show their commitment to protecting the environment and natural resources.
Speaking to participants, the DCE stressed the importance of caring for the environment and called on everyone to take tree planting and environmental protection seriously. He urged residents to learn from the recent devastating floods in Accra, explaining that “damaging the environment, dumping waste carelessly, and destroying vegetation are major causes of such disasters”.
“Plant a tree today, protect our future tomorrow,” the DCE added.
The DCE encouraged all citizens to care for the trees they plant and adopt practices that protect the environment. He called for the creation of a greener, safer, and more resilient Talensi District for future generations.
