The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, has launched a historic development initiative aimed at transforming the Upper East Region into a competitive economic and investment hub.

Speaking at a media briefing in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, announced the upcoming Upper East Regional Development and Business Forum and Exhibition, scheduled from June 29 to July 1, 2026, at the Desert Pastures Church.

Running under the theme “PEARL” — Prosperity through Enterprise, Agriculture, Resilience and Livelihoods — the non-partisan initiative introduces a robust Ten-Year Strategic Development Framework spanning 2026 to 2035, designed to mobilize approximately GH¢8.6 billion in public and private sector investments.

The framework prioritizes ten key sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing, mining, renewable energy, and tourism, with the aim of unlocking the region’s under-utilised cross-border trade and economic potential.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officially open the national-level forum, which will feature a Business Exhibition and Investment Expo showcasing opportunities across all fifteen districts of the region.

Hon. Akamugri called on financial institutions, international investors, development partners, and the media to actively support and invest in the blueprint, stressing that it is key to securing sustainable jobs and long-term economic prosperity for the people of the Upper East Region.
