TV3 Network, a subsidiary of Media General has apologised for comments made by one of its guests.
Rita Etornam Sey, CEO of Inspire Today, who appeared on the network and other platforms, claimed that young women in Northern Ghana use clay as substitute for sanitary pad to catch menstrual flow.
Ms. Etornam Sey, who donated sanitary products to some schoolgirls in the Upper East Region, added that she found out about this when she visited that part of the country as part of her outfit’s outreach activities.
But her comment sparked outrage among indigenes of the North who described it as not just preposterous but disparaging.
Venting their displeasure on social media, they stated that such a practice does not exist anywhere in the North but is only fabrication by Ms. Etornam to win donor support.
They also turned their anger at the media outlets, which granted her the interviews, for allowing such unsubstantiated utterances on their platforms.
Reacting to these concerns, co-host of TV3’s morning show, Roland Walker stated, “We would like to apologize dearly to all citizens of Northern Ghana, families and friends, all organizations that work within the space and all concerns citizens who have been concerned and agitated over the comments made by Mrs. Rita Etornam Sey right here on this platform. We would like to disassociate ourselves from the comment that she made and also again emphasize that we apologize dearly for the miscommunication”.
