Assembly Member for the Apuwongo-Yikene Electoral Area in the Bongo District, Roger Abugre suspects the District Chief Executive for the area, Rita Atanga lacks the requisite skills that will enable her lobby for development for the district.
According to Mr. Abugre, despite the many developmental challenges the district has been plagued with, it has not experience any major development in recent times.
He said the District Assembly has failed to attend to pressing needs of residents as it said it does not have funds.
Mr. Abugre narrated how residents of his electoral area have had to carry gravels with their heads to fix a bridge that was washed away because the assembly could not attend to it due to lack of resources.
The situation, he asserted, is same even in the district capital, raising eyebrows about the DCE’s ability to mobilise resources to develop the area.
Mr. Abugre believes Ms. Atanga does not have what it takes to cut deals with the big guns and bring development to the area.
“What they (District Assembly) always say is that there are no funds. So if the assembly has no funds, what can we do? Maybe, our honourable DCE, too, should I say the lobbying skills too are not there. It maybe she doesn’t have the skills to lobby,” he said on Breakfast Today.
