Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, Abdallah Jonathan Salifu is refuting assertions that NPP’s parliamentary candidate aspirant for Bolgatanga East Constituency, Matthew Silas Amoah is a threat to the re-election bid of the MP for the area, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.
Mr. Abdallah Jonathan said although Silas Amoah is gaining traction in the region, he stands no chance of beating Dr. Ayine in the 2024 Elections.
“People outside might feel that Bolga East is being threatened especially Dr. Akuritinga Ayine’s position, it’s not the case at all. The gentleman is doing what he is supposed to do as a first times. How would you have known about?,” he said on Sate of Our Nation.
Matthew Silas Amoah has become the toast of the town particularly within the NPP after he announced his entry into the politics of the constituency with a number of philanthropic activities.
Many observers say these activities in the area have earned him a special place in the hearts of the people and they may dump the current MP for him.
But describing him as a social media sensation, Abdallah Jonathan argued that his activities in the area are typical of any new entrant in the political space and have no bearing on the election in 2024.
“He is a social media candidate, that’s the way I will describe him. He feels that he’s a new person. That’s normal of every politician especially somebody showing up for the first time.
He has to market himself. So even if he decides to change the roofing of his own house, he has to bring journalists to cover. That’s just all about it, nothing more,” he stated.
While acknowledging his contribution to the development of the area, Mr. Abdallah said his chances in the 2024 Elections are slim.
He, however, believes Mr. Amoah is projecting himself well and could be a viable candidate in the future.
“We acknowledge his contribution but we know it’s not his time. One of his confidant said ‘look, he is young guy, we all understand’. It tells you that what’s doing is for tomorrow but for 2024”
