Spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has made a strong case for the election of Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 Elections.
According to Miracles Aboagye, Dr. Bawumia has distinguished himself well in his positions as running mate and Vice-President thus, is the right person to lead the NPP and ultimately, Ghana.
He added that the Vice-President exudes qualities that add value to not just the NPP in terms of its electoral fortunes but the country as a whole.
“Election is about numbers, they (NPP members) believe that Dr. Bawumia as an individual brings so much value to our party in terms of numbers,” he said.
“ Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s integrity and credibility as upstanding, honest, sincere man is not in doubt and that is why anytime issues of credibility comes to play, you’ll realize that not only NPP will becoming to the defence of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia but even Civil Society Organizations some of them are known to be strong critics of this party will say ‘no, when it comes to Dr. Bawumia, we believe he is a different crop of politician’”.
Miracles Aboagye argued that before the Vice-President’s emergence at the forefront of the political space, politics in the country was based on petty and trivial issues.
Dr. Bawumia, he said, however, changed that ever since he shot into the political landscape, transforming the country’s politics into issues-based and a competition of ideas.
“Dr. Bawumia has really lifted the value of our political party, he’s changed the face of our politics, he’s changed the face of the NPP,” he stated.
“Before Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia started really doing issue based campaigning in our country, this country’s elections were mainly kerosene, matches and elections where the night before elections, you would see the NDC moving from house to house and say ‘this is matches, go and vote for the white man.
He’ll be number 1,2 on the ballot paper’. Today, open your phone lines, every Ghanaian that calls you can tell you what NPP said we would do under education etc”.
This coupled with what he said is the unblemished integrity and credibility of the Vice-President as an honest and sincere politician makes him the NPP’s best bet for the 2024 Elections.
Miracles Aboagye was speaking in an interview on JoyNews TV ahead of the Special Delegates Conference of the party.
The conference, which is scheduled to come off on Saturday, August 26, 2023, is aimed at whittling the number of aspirants down in line with the party’s constitution.
Currently, there are 10 persons vying for the NPP’s flagbearer position.
The constitution of the party, however, limits the number of candidates partaking in the contest to 5, prompting the need to hold the Special Delegates Conference ahead of the main conference.
