2 persons have been exposed for attempting to reregister in the ongoing limited voters’ registration in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.

The 2 – a male and a female – were already registered voters but, for reasons best known to them, sought to register again in the ongoing exercise.

They were, however, found out when they put their fingerprints for their biometrics to be captured as the system displayed their details as previously registered.

Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, William Obeng said although the actions of the two individuals are criminal offence, they were left off the hook because they appeared ignorant of the electoral laws.

“We had those issues in China Paga or Kassena-Nakana West District yesterday, two persons, a lady and a young man, tried to outwit the system and incidentally, their data and everything popped up so quickly we cautioned them and left them off the hook. They didn’t know. I think they did that out of ignorance,” he stated on State of Our Nation.

“So we educated them that this one is not reregistration and that it is meant for people who for one reason or the other have never or could not register with us the last time we had it”.

Mr. Obeng cautioned the public against such act as he said they will be found should they attempt to reregister.

He urged registered voters, who have issues with their registration, to exercise patience while the EC work to address their concerns in due time.

“Just have patience and as soon as we finish with this registration exercise, on the 3rd, officially, we starting transfer of votes. Along the way, we will also entertain people who had their ID card missing and we will replace them at a cost. So people should exercise patience and bear with us as we go along,” he urged.

Mr. Obeng indicated that the EC has resolved all technical hitches that almost marred the exercise at the onset in the region and that registration is ongoing seamlessly.

He also revealed that close to 2,000 applicants have so far been registered by the commission in the region.
