The newly appointed District Chief Executive for Bongo Joseph Akaseke Abaa says he will push for the establishment of a College of Education in the area.

“This will train more teachers for our schools and create new jobs in our community,” he stated.

The establishment of such a tertiary institution in the area, the DCE believes, will be essential in improving the quality of education in the district.

In a speech he delivered after members of the assembly confirmed his nomination on April 15, 2025, Joseph Abaa decried the developmental gaps that inhibit access to quality education and health care in the district.

He mentioned infrastructure deficit in the health and education sectors, insanitation and social vices as well as poor standard of living as some of challenges that beset the district.

“Our district faces urgent challenges that we must confront now. Too many children learn in overcrowded classrooms or under leaking roofs. Too many of the sick are turned away because our clinics lack essential supplies. A single failed rainy season can wipe out a village’s harvest. Too many of our youth cannot find jobs,” he said.

However, he indicated that the Mahama administration has introduced policies to address these challenges and that the district, understand his leadership, will take full advantage of the said policies to “revitalize” it.

The DCE also intends to press for the rehabilitation of the Vea Dam and leverage other government programmes to boost agriculture in the area with the aim of improving the living conditions of residents.

“We will leverage government programmes to boost agriculture, build value chains, push for the rehabilitation of the Vea Dam, and make farming viable and rewarding again.”

While calling for support to develop the district, he stated that he will run a transparent and an inclusive administration.

“My door will always be open to everyone, regardless of party or background. If you have a concern or suggestion, I want to hear it. I believe that only by all of us working together can we achieve the progress we desire.”
