The District Chief Executive for Talensi John Millim Naabwomya has refuted allegations levelled against him by a group in the district that opposed his nomination.

The group, led by Charles King Luu, a Branch Chairman of the governing NDC, who has now been suspended, had demanded the withdrawal of John Millim’s nomination, arguing that his appointment as a head of the district would disturb the peace of the area and put it under the control of the main opposition New Patriotic Party.

At a press conference, the group said John Millim was a “devoted” agent of the Tong-Ran, the paramount chief of the area, and that his nomination, if allowed to sail through, would put the district administration under the control of the NPP because of the chief’s known ties with the largest opposition party.

They had also accused him of anti-party conduct, claiming that he had campaigned for the Tong-Ran in the 2021 Council of State elections against a candidate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had backed and that he was not in good terms with key party members and some traditional leaders in the area.

These among a barrage of other allegations, they said, made John Millim unsuitable for the position and demanded a withdrawal of his nomination.

President Mahama did not heed to their demand and the nominee has been approved and appointed for the position.

Speaking for the first time in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM after assuming office, the now DCE refuted the allegations against him, stating that his loyalty to the NDC is unquestionable.

“I have never been seen on any platform campaigning, talking, or engaging in any other activity for any party  apart from NDC from the onset. And so, it won’t be this time around that somebody would view me as another party member and that one should be a cause of panic to me,” he stated.

“I follow this party rules at every stage in the political activity of NDC in Talensi. I’ve been involved. And that is how I came up that far to become the chairman. I think that’s the highest position in the constituency.”

He also explained his relationship with the paramount chief of the area while disputing the claim that his decisions would be influenced by the chief and the NPP.

“The chief is the paramount chief of Talensi. And every Talensi sees him and regards him as their father. And that’s also see him.”
