Paga Crocodiles Stars

The Sandema Sports Stadium was throbbed with emotion and excitement as the Afoko Memorial Football Competition, a befitting tribute organized by children of late Francis Asianad Afoko in his honour reached its grand finale. Teams from across the region – Paga Crocodile Stars, Wiaga United, Bolga All Stars, and Real Bulsa United – had fiercely competed, showcasing the passion and skill that characterized Upper East football.

Paga Crocodile Stars emerged as the undisputed champions, their victory a testament to their hard work and talent. Mashawudu Adams claimed the coveted Goal King award, while Collins Kubugi shone as the Best Goalkeeper. Samed of Bolga All Stars, despite his team’s placing, was lauded as the Best Player.

The awards ceremony was elevated by the presence of Mr. Awentemi Paul Afoko, former NPP National Chairman, who vowed to establish a football club in honor of his late father, Mr. Asianab Francis Afoko. Mr. Afoko, accompanied by his wife and children, pledged to collaborate with the Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairman to construct a mini football stadium to leave a lasting legacy in his father’s name. Mr. Moses Afoko, another son of the late Afoko, joined his brothers and other family members in celebrating the event.

The event was also graced by the presence of the District Police Commander for Bulsa North and his men, ensuring security and order. The RFA Chairman, Mr. Salifu Zida, delivered a heartfelt speech, highlighting the significant contributions of the late Francis Asianad Afoko to football, not only in the Upper East Region but across Ghana, further solidifying the competition’s importance. The Afoko Memorial Football Competition successfully honored a beloved figure while promoting community spirit and the beautiful game.
