Dr. Samuel Akonga, an aspiring regional communications officer of the New Patriotic Party, has defended the party’s economic record while calling for greater honesty in political messaging.
Speaking on Dreamz FM, Dr Akonga said the previous administration performed credibly despite global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and international conflicts.
He cited Ghana’s reported GDP growth of 5.7% in 2024 and declining inflation as evidence of economic stability before the transition of power.
“We performed, but Ghanaians felt it did not meet expectations and opted for change,” he said.
Dr Akonga criticized what he described as “negative propaganda” in Ghanaian politics, urging political actors to present balanced assessments rather than distort facts.
“As politicians, we should let the electorate understand the truth and not misinform them,” he added.
He also attributed global economic pressures to external shocks, including geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions, noting their impact on developing economies like Ghana.
