An aspiring communications officer of the New Patriotic Party, Johnson Ayine, says new reforms introduced by the party are aimed at improving transparency and fairness in its ongoing grassroots reorganization.

Speaking on Dreamz FM’s “State of Our Nation” program, Mr Ayine said the party has constituted independent committees to supervise the distribution of nomination forms and oversee elections at the polling station level.

He said the move is intended to address longstanding concerns that constituency executives previously influenced the process by favoring preferred candidates.

“This time, to enhance transparency and reduce petitions, committees have been tasked to distribute forms and supervise the elections,” Mr Ayine said, adding that there have so far been no major complaints.

The party has also expanded its electoral college, increasing the number of polling station executives to seven and introducing electoral area committees made up of five members.

Mr Ayine said another key reform is the requirement for members and aspirants to pay dues before participating in the electoral process, a measure he believes will help mobilize resources for party activities.

“Party supporters at the base are now required to contribute financially before taking part in decision-making,” he said. “This will help the party generate the needed resources.”

He urged party members to ensure openness and inclusivity in selecting leaders at the grassroots level, stressing that transparent processes would reduce disputes that have characterized previous internal elections.
