The National Democratic Congress (NDC), following its victory in the 2024 general elections, has been urged not to disappoint the people of the Upper East Region.
William Jalulah, a former Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), emphasized that the party’s overwhelming support in the region places a significant responsibility on the government to deliver meaningful development.
According to him, the NDC’s clean sweep of all 15 parliamentary seats, coupled with overwhelming victory in the presidential, must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.
He stressed that the mandate given to the party should be reflected in both major infrastructure projects and efforts to address longstanding basic development challenges.
Speaking on Thursday during State of Our Nation, Mr. Jalulah called on the government to prioritize key issues in the region. These include improving road networks, eliminating the phenomenon of “schools under trees,” strengthening healthcare delivery, and ensuring improved access to clean water.
He noted that addressing these concerns would demonstrate the government’s appreciation of the trust and support shown by the people of the Upper East Region.
“This party cannot afford to disappoint the people of Upper East Region again and I am saying this with all sincerity. What that means it that nobody can come and tell the people of the Upper East Region that their mother is not in the kitchen. Your mother is in the kitchen and this is not the time to politicize development. On this basis, I think that the region should get what it deserves. It is just fair that this region is treated well, that basic things are fixed. We should not have schools under trees, we should not have communities that basic water, they don’t have and you have communities where electricity is not connected. We need to really develop the place.” He stressed.
On the proposed airport for the region, Mr. Jalulah urged the government to move beyond discussions and ensure its construction.
He also encouraged residents to shift focus from debates over the necessity of the project to actively demanding its realization.
“I was shocked when people from this region were questioning the need for the airport so please, we shouldn’t argue over the airport and the Transport Ministry and the Ghana Airports Company should build the airport for us.” He stated
