The District Chief Executive for Talensi, John Millim Nabomya, says measures are underway to complete and operationalize a fish pond project highlighted in a recent Fourth Estate investigation.

Speaking on Dreamz FM’s Breakfast Today programme, Mr Nabomya said he became aware of challenges surrounding the project shortly after assuming office and had already established a committee to assess the situation before the publication of the report.

According to him, the project was completed to a certain stage but lacks critical components necessary for full operation.

“The publication is late because steps had already been taken to address the issues before the report came out,” he said.

Mr Nabwomya explained that while the physical structures have been completed, additional resources are needed to stock the ponds with fingerlings and make the facility fully functional for beneficiaries.

He declined to assign blame for the project’s current state, noting that the facility was inherited from a previous administration and that his focus remains on ensuring it serves the intended purpose.

The DCE said the district is exploring alternative sources of funding due to delays in the release of funds from the Social Cohesion (SOCO) programme.

He stressed that fish farming remains relevant to the district’s development agenda, arguing that residents consume fish and could benefit from a properly functioning aquaculture project.

Mr Nabwomya expressed confidence that the remaining work would be completed once funding becomes available.
