Rasheeda Adams, ex-wife of former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak has claimed that one of the factors that led to the failure of her marriage to Mr. Mubarak was because the former MP felt threatened by the strides she was making in the public space.

According to Rasheeda Adams, Mr. Mubarak felt she was in competition with him and became uncomfortable when she started grabbing public attention as results of the mark she was making through her humanitarian activities.

The former MP, she claimed, feared that the great strides she was making would outshine him in the public space hence, he began finding faults in everything she was doing in an attempt to stifle her progress leading to the collapse of their marriage.

Ms. Rasheeda said this while contributing to a discussion on ‘Women in Leadership and Politics; Challenges and Way Forward’ on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio.

“I was formerly married to a politician and one of the biggest problems we had was that he felt I was in some kind of competition with him. Even when I was doing things like humanitarian things like feeding needy people and things like that, somehow, he felt that would get too much attention. People just are very nervous seeing women out there,” she stated.

Ras Mubarak and Rasheeda Adams got married in 2014 after the birth of their first child and got divorce in 2016.

Ms. Rasheeda, after the dissolution of the marriage, continually accused her ex-husband of abusing her physically, emotionally and financially as well as stifling her progress.

Mr. Mubarak, however, remained silent over the issue until in March this year when Ms. Rasheeda compared her alleged abuse by him during their marriage to the assault on a woman named Liliana Dedjoe by her husband which unfortunately led to her death.

Ms. Rasheeda, in a post on social media, suggested that she would have died at the hands of Mr. Mubarak just like the said woman died at the hands of her husband if she had not stood her grounds and left the marriage.

She alleged the former MP abused her and used his influence to prevent her from getting justice stating that her decision to leave the marriage despite opposition from society saved her from further abuses that could have led to her death and have made her a better person.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Ras Mubarak refuted all the allegations she had been levelling against him indicating that Ms. Rasheeda was manipulative and wanted him to dissipate public resources for her comfort.

He revealed how she demanded the removal of his female secretary for her to take over suggesting that Ms. Rasheeda married him because of his wealth as she made requests for his banks details in order that she could access his finances in case “he dies”.

He also refuted claims that her stifled his ex-wife’s progress revealing that he had secured numerous jobs and had even enrolled her into school to further her education but she abandoned everything.
