Chief Executive Officer of Charger Limited, producers of Happy Man Bitters Emmanuel Bortey Borketey has said his limited formal education did not prevent him from pursuing his dreams and business aspirations.
According to him, though tertiary level education is important in the lives and growth of young people, it should not be seen as the only way to attaining higher heights in life.
In an exclusive interview on Dreamz Fm, the business mogul who runs multi million beverage, Transport, Plant Pool and Real Estate Companies said he could not continue his education after Senior High School and chose to channel his strength and focus on growing a business idea of producing beverages.
“At that period (After SHS) I had to fend for myself and I told myself education has no end, so when I get to half of the stage I want to get to then I can still go to school. I married my wife two years ago, last two weeks she had her Masters graduation. It means anytime I’m ready to go back to school, I will go. When I wanted to focus on education and I didn’t have the push, I decided to choose my options wisely and decided to do business. If I insisted on education, I could go and get all the certificates and then go to someone uneducated to seek for employment,” he said.
The Charger Limited CEO intimated that being a salaried worker is good, however he never desired to be one.
“I want to create; I want to grow something and produce. One thing challenges me and it is that I look at the world population and I realize about 97% are just consumers. People just consume and few produce. Those who produce are the real people who make it,” he added.
Mr Emmanuel Bortey Borketey, an honorary doctorate degree holder noted that his greatest challenge and fear in life is the uncertainty of the future.
According to him, the stories of some influential and successful people who lost their fortune after attaining enviable status propels him to continue to work hard for himself.
“I have seen people who have moved from grass to grace and others from grace to grass. So we have to keep pushing. I always want to start something from the scratch and watch it grow. I hate to see artificial growth around me. When I invest into a project, I don’t expect to see it grow overnight. Such things don’t last. I want to see it grow from one stage to the other,” he said.
Over the five years, Charger Limited has heavily invested in the area of sports and entertainment in the Upper East Region through the sponsorship of events and related programs.
The company has also extended support to the security institutions in the region carried out charity activities which have resulted in the provision of cash and logistical support to identifiable vulnerable groups in the region.
