Parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress for the Bongo Constituency, Charles Bawa Dua has urged delegates of the party to kick out the sitting Member of Parliament for the area, Edward Bawa in the upcoming primaries of the NDC.
Mr. Bawa Dua contended that the incumbent MP does not appeal to the electorate and lacks what it takes to unify the party and maintain its dominance in the constituency.
This, he said, has resulted in the NDC’s electoral fortunes dwindling in the constituency in the past two elections and could eventually, lead to it losing the seat if the situation is not reversed.
“The NDC only needs to put in place a marketable candidate and will reverse the situation to where it was in the Abongo’s time. I think he needs to be replaced by candidate who is more acceptable to the people, a candidate who will welcome everybody into the NDC and that is me who will come and represent the party and the NPP will soon find out that their fortunes are dwindling,” he stated in an interview on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga.
He asked delegates not to be swayed by what he said is deception and replace Mr. Edward Bawa with him as the party’s parliamentary candidate so as to save it from losing grounds in one of its strongholds in the region.
“My dear delegates, the decision that you will make on the 13th of May will determine the future fortunes of the NDC party in the constituency. Please, do not be intimidated by anything. Do not get swayed by deception and empty promises.
Please, take a decision that will accord with the wishes of the masses who are wailing and clamouring that Lawyer Charles Bawa Dua should be the Parliamentary Candidate and eventually, the MP for the Bongo Constituency,” he appealed.
Mr. Bawa Dua dismissed assertions that electing a new candidate and subsequently, a new MP will distract the developmental plans of the constituency.
He argued that such claims are preposterous and are only meant to railroad them into retaining a candidate, he believes, has not live up to expectations.
He urged the delegates not to be moved by such calculated attempts to influence them, pointing out that it is their responsibility as electoral college to take a decision that is in the interest of the party and the entire constituency.
“Let nobody be afraid that if we change an MP, we are reducing level of development or detract the developmental plans of the constituency. That’s not true. We have changed MPs over the years especially when the MP is not performing, we have a duty to change that MP. Nobody should be afraid. It’s not an offense to change an MP. It’s all part of the democratic process”.
Charles Bawa Dua is seeking to oust Edward Bawa in the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Bongo Constituency scheduled to take place on May 13, 2023.
This is not the first time the legal practitioner is making an attempt for the party’s ticket.
He had, previously, made two attempts to represent the party as its parliamentary candidate for the constituency but failed in both attempts.
He is, however, hopeful that he will be lucky this time around and clinch the ticket, which is almost a guarantee for making it to parliament.
