The Member of Parliament for Talensi Constituency, Benson Tongo Baba, has met with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Aspirants at Tongo ahead of the Party’s Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
Having represented Talensi constituency in the August House for 3 terms, B.T Baba as affectionately called is of the conviction that, time has come for him to pave way for vibrant and hardworking party youths who so desire to climb the high office, as he affirmed his commitment to throw his alloyed and unflinching support to whoever emerges victorious in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
The meeting was aimed at giving the Aspirants the opportunity to among other things interact and engage the MP on a number of issues including ‘agenda 100% endorsement’ for the presumptive flagbearer of the opposition NDC, John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming Presidential Primaries.
Addressing the meeting which was held at his instance, the Talensi Law maker who is not seeking for reelection congratulated the contestants for making it through the various stages of the competition and expressed his appreciation and satisfaction over what he described as ‘peaceful and civil manner’ with which they have conducted their campaigns thus far and urged them including their supporters to continue to engage in healthy campaigns.

He noted that, ‘’I am not going to support any one of the candidates despite the incessant pressure from within and without the Constituency on me to do so’’. This he explained will enable him play his mediating role effectively if there happen to be fall-outs after the primaries as he warned persons closed to him to stay away from the campaign activities of any of the Aspirants.
While applauding the Constituency Executives for their spectacular neutrality role, he equally did not minced words in reiterating the fact that he was not prepared to countenance on any member of the Executives who would want to go contrary to this moral duty.
B.T Baba urged Candidates to endeavor to campaign for the Former President as they engage delegates for their supports before the upcoming contest of the party, while challenging them to break his previous record of producing the highest percentage for the president in the Upper East Region and the second highest in the country.
He maintained that ‘’That would be a very good tribute they together with the Chairman Nabwomya’s led executives at all levels in the Constituency could give him’’.
His submissions which were interlaced with thunderous applause were hailed and described by all the Aspirants and Constituency Executives who were also in attendance as masterful, timely, exemplary, pace-setting and appropriate, considering the levels of acrimony and rancour that have so far, characterized the campaign activities in other sister Constituencies in the region and elsewhere.
The Parliamentary Aspirants were grateful to the Outgoing MP for his fatherly and moderating roles and pledged to adhere strictly to the oath they signed to during the vetting, as they indicated their readiness to subject themselves to signing another undertaking at the Constituency level to give the assurances to him and his team of Executives that they would not engage in any vitriolic attacks on one another and other acts that could erode the gains made so far.
