Musician Pandy has criticized organizers of the Happy Man Bitters Upper East Music Awards (UEMA) for what he said was their failure to publish voting results for last year’s awards, particularly those of the Artiste of the Year category in which he was a contender.
Speaking on Dreamz FM’s “Work Stretch” show hosted by Prosper Wooma, the 2022 Artiste of the Year winner said he and his team were unable to verify results from last year’s awards despite attempts to engage organizers.
“I called to ask for the results so my team and I could see whether it was true,” he said. “We were told to gather for a meeting, but it never happened. From then, we didn’t hear from them again.”
Pandy said the lack of clarity left him feeling uneasy about participating in subsequent editions.
“It may not be cheating, but when you cannot see the results, you feel some way,” he added.
He also cited logistical challenges as another major reason he did not file for this year’s awards, noting that several members of his management team had traveled, making it difficult to mobilize support for nominations and voting campaigns.
“I cannot do it alone. You need your team to move around and talk to people to vote,” he said.
Despite his withdrawal, the artiste said he remains open to returning to the awards in the future if his work output justifies it.
“If next year I believe I have worked massively, I will go for it again,” he said.
