KASSENA NANKANA WEST DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE, STEPHEN AEKE AKURUGO

The District Chief Executive for the Kassena Nankana West District, Stephen Aeke Akurugo has disclosed that the district’s 24-hour economy market is expected to be completed in 36 months.

These markets are being constructed across the country as part of the government’s desire to implement a 24-hour economy in order to provide modern, round-the-clock markets across all 261 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.

In his Sessional Address at the first ordinary meeting of the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly, the DCE detailed that the project is expected to be completed in 36 months.

Apart from the 24-hour economy market, he has also been providing an update on projects under the District Assembly’s Common Fund and those being constructed under the SOCO initiative.

“The 24-Hour Economy Market Initiative, spearheaded by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, seeks to establish modern, round-the-clock markets across the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts nationwide to stimulate economic growth and promote commercial activities.

Hon. Presiding Member, a sod-cutting ceremony was held in the Kassena Nankana West District at Nania near Motel to handover site to the contractor (SUNLU GHANA LTD) to officially commence the construction of the project. The contractor is expected to complete the project within 36 calendar months.”

He continued, stating “the initiative is designed to transform urban and commercial centres into vibrant 24-hour economic hubs, thereby accelerating economic growth, increasing trade volumes, and reducing rural-urban migration. The proposed ultra-modern markets are expected to include warehouses, cold storage facilities, restaurants, crèches, clinics, Women’s Bank and dedicated police and fire service stations to support traders and other business operators working in shifts.”
