Flagbearer hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has lambasted political leaders, who hail from Northern Ghana, for failing to bring development to the area.
The Member of Parliament for Assin Central said the 5 regions of the North are endowed with huge resources and its people should not have been suffering severe deprivation if governments have taken deliberate initiatives to exploit those resources to the benefit of the people.
Mr. Agyapong cannot fathom why the North will be that impoverished when some of its people have and continue to occupy high political offices including the office of the president and vice-president.
“Liman was president, Mahama was president, Aliu Mahama Vice president, the current Vice-president and you are still poor and you go to the south to do Kayayo?” he stated in an interview on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga.
The MP, who is seeking to be lead the governing party into the 2024 Elections, is however pledging to turn things around in these 5 regions if he is made the party’s flagbearer and ultimately, become president.
According to him, he will transform the area and better the living conditions of residents under his reign as president through agriculture and industrilization.
He noted that the 5 regions have arable lands and would produce enough food to feed the country and its industries if put into good use.
“I am going to change this place for the Southerners also to come to the North and look for jobs. Because God has given you arable lands, the lands are so flat.
When you come with the machines, you can clear hundred thousands of acres with combined harvesters for rice and those crops. Then we begin to have the factories processing all these things and you will see the number of people who will troop in from the South to come to the North”.
