The atmosphere in the Winkongo Community was filled with excitement as the 13th edition of the Intersection Unity Games concluded in a spectacular display of talent, discipline, and communal harmony. From December 26, 2025, to January 4, 2026, the atmosphere was electric, drawing fans from across the Talensi district to witness eight determined teams battle for the coveted silverware.
Group A featured the powerhouse squads of Central, Awaradone, Laabisi, and Dapoore, while Group B showcased the unyielding spirits of Hotel Area, Goriko East, Catholic/Dam Area, and Goriko West.
The third-place match saw Goriko East overcome Awaradoone in a nail-biting 5-4 penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. However, all eyes were on the titanic final between Central and Hotel Area. In a tactical masterpiece that remained goalless through regulation time, Hotel Area displayed steely nerves to triumph 5-3 on penalties, hoisting the majestic giant trophy to the cheers of their ecstatic supporters.
Individual brilliance was celebrated with glittering awards. Anaba Alfred Ayingura (Central) secured the Goal King title with 5 goals, bringing his astonishing tournament career total to 33. Junior Atampugre was awarded the Golden Gloves for a miraculous clean sheet throughout the tournament, while Atule Martin (Central) was rightfully named the Best Player.
The closing ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries. Mr. Anthony Adimazoeya, Headmaster of Bolgatanga SHS (BIGBOSS), who chaired the event, entreated the youth to shun drugs and pursue academic excellence. He, meanwhile, donated GHC1,000 to support the event.
The DCE for Talensi, John Millim, echoed his sentiment and praised the unity demonstrated by the youth through the event and equally a sum of GHC1,000 to support its cause.
Anangongo Princ, Secretary to the Chief of Winkongo, said Naba Mose Aganzua remains immensely proud of the organizers of the event and has promised a bull to the organizers for their remarkable contributions towards peace and development of the community.
The Winkongo Intersection Unity Games remain a shining beacon of hope, peace, and unrivaled sporting passion.
This tournament is not merely a competition but a sacred thirteen-year-old tradition that has documented the evolution of local football.
