Residents of Balungu, a community in the Bongo District want Jesus Spanner Miracle Church operating in the area to be closed down.
The demand comes after a video, in which an infant is seen being manhandled at the church, emerged on social media.
In the about 2 minutes, 28 seconds video, one of the suspects, a woman is seen holding the baby upside down with one hand while swinging it around like a piece of cloth.
She then proceeds to throw the infant up in the air a number of times, holds it in the hand and swings it around amidst drumming and dancing along with other members of the church.
As if that is not enough, she goes ahead to grab the child in the abdomen and turn it upside down. She then shoulders it before placing its head against hers while holding its legs up in the air and continue dancing.
Head Pastor of the church, who is a biological father to the baby, justified the torture, claiming it is a ritual the Holy Spirit instructed him to perform once a baby is born to fortify it against evil spirits.
But the residents, who are outraged by the incident, are demanding the closure of his church.
Speaking in an interview on Break News, Assembly Member of the Balungu Electoral Area, Emmanuel Asekere said although local authority is yet to take any decision regarding the church, many residents are calling for it to be shutdown.
“On our community platform, more than 90 percent of the people are saying the church must be closed down, more than 90 percent of the members on the platform are calling for the closure of the church,” he said.
Meanwhile, the pastor, his wife and 4 other members of the church including the woman who is seen manhandling the infant in the video are scheduled to be arraigned before court today.
