In an exclusive interview on Dreamz FM’s Breakfast Today program, Johnson Anaane, Secretary for the New Patriot Party (NPP) in the Bongo Constituency, shed light on the unexpected decision of Peter Ayinbisa, former DCE for the area, to decline contesting in the NPP primaries and subsequently the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

According to Johnson the party had approached Ayinbisa on multiple occasions, urging him to participate in the primaries, but he politely declined.

“We appealed and spoke to Ayinbisa to contest on countless occasions, but he declined. Unfortunately, we were unable to convince him,” He revealed.

He said, contrary to speculations, Ayinbisa’s decision to opt out was due to personal reasons that must be respected.

Ayinbisa had previously contested in the 2020 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NPP. He, however, did not attempt a comeback when the party opened nomination for contest last year, leaving many, who had anticipated his return owing to his performance in the last election, wondering about his future plans.

Johnson’s revelation has sparked a mix of reactions from political enthusiasts, with some praising Ayinbisa’s decision to prioritize his personal life, while others are disappointed by his absence from the political landscape.
