An infant being manhandled at church service

Head Pastor of Jesus Spanner Miracle Church, Kwabena Atogpeelige Akongyaane, his wife, Mary Akongyaane and 4 other members of the church will be processed before court today for allegedly manhandling his baby during a church service at Balungu in the Bongo District.

A video of the incident, which is said to have happened earlier this year when the infant was about 5 weeks old, went viral on social media last week, generating public uproar.

In the about 2 minutes, 28 seconds video, one of the suspects, a woman is seen holding the baby upside down with one hand while swinging it around like a piece of cloth.

She then proceeds to throw the infant up in the air a number of times, holds it  in the hand and swings it around amidst drumming and dancing along with other members of the church.

As if that was not enough, she goes ahead to grab the child in the abdomen and turn it upside down. She then shoulders it before placing its head against hers while holding its legs up in the air and continue dancing.

All this is said to have happened in the presence of the Head pastor and his wife who are the biological parents of the child.

In an interview with the media, the pastor admitted that the incident happened in his church and explained that it is a ritual his outfit performs to fortify new-borns against spiritual attacks.

However, he, his wife and 4 other members of the church were on Friday arrested following public outcry and will be arraigned before court today.
