The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi has revealed that he asked headmaster of his alma mater, Prempeh College to keep his Senior High School’s certificate in a museum to serve as a source of inspiration to young people.

According to him, his success in life without a certificate is an inspirational story that young people must be told so as to motivate them in their aspiration to realize their dreams.

He disclosed that the headmaster of his alma mater had reached out to him to present to him his certificate after completing school so many years ago. This gesture by the school’s head, he stated, is because he has made it in life.

Chairman Wontumi said he was grateful and humbled by the gesture but asked that the certificate be returned and kept in a museum to inspire others that they can become successful in life without relying on their certificates.

For him, his poor academic performance did not prevent him from becoming rich and powerful hence, other people who are academically not good can do same. He said but for his success in life, he would have been ridiculed for performing poorly in school.

“When I completed Prempeh College, I didn’t go for my certificate. But because I’ve become successful, Can you imagine, my headmaster from Prempeh College in the company of a few others reached out to me just to give me my certificate? I was grateful and humbled.  I cried and prayed that day when I got home because there are a lot of people who have become destitute because they are unable to have a certificate but few people like us are successful without a certificate.

Even me not being able to go for my certificate, my school remembers me and reached out to give me my certificate but I asked them to keep it in a museum so it inspires others but I would go for it at the appropriate time,” he said in an interview with Accra-based Y FM.

He added “if you are successful in life, people don’t realize your shortcomings. If I wasn’t successful in life, I would have been ridiculed for not being able to go back to my school and have my certificate.”

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling party is said to be one of the wealthiest and heavy financier of the NPP. He has gained notoriety for his public display of wealth.

This wanton display of wealth, some party members claimed, angered party’s supporters and floating voters leading to the party’s inability to win all the seats in the region.
