Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Donatus Akamukre has dismissed assertion that the party and its Members of Parliament have neglected the region.
Despite decades of unflinching loyalty to the umbrella party, many believe the region has not gotten a fair share of development especially under the NDC, which has governed for a accumulative period of 16 years.
The party’s MPs from the region, who are in the majority, are often blamed for not trumpeting the development needs of the area and lobbying for projects and policies to address same.
But speaking to such criticisms in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, Donatus Akamukre said the claims against the party and its MPs are attempts to make them unpopular.
“If you want to kill a dog, you give it a bad name and hang it. That’s why they want to give the MPs bad name and hang them. Can they point out that this MP hasn’t done anything at all in his area,” he stated.
“Most of them who claim they are neutral have something under their sleeves. They have something against that particular MP, that’s why they are going at them and they claim they are neutral” .
He argued that the NDC has rewarded the region enough for its loyalty.
He, however, concede that the area still lacks many social amenities and a lot needs to be done to provide such needs.
Regardless, he maintained the NDC has brought remarkable development including roads, electricity among others to the Upper East Region and has always included natives of the region its governments.
