STUDENTS DISPLAYING THE WORK AS PART OF THE OPEN DAY

For the first time in the history of the Mamprugu Moagduri District in the North East Region, three (3) schools held an Open Day facilitated by Afrikids Ghana.

The event saw learners of these schools display communal spirit and commitment to education.

The 3 Basic schools are Kubori D/A Primary/JHS School, Prima D/A Basic, and Kunkwa D/A Primary/JHS, which held the first-ever School Open Days, marking a significant milestone in the AfriKids One Million Smiles initiative in the Mamprugu Moagduri District (MMD).

The event, organized in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Mamprugu Moagduri District Assembly, had learners energetically take part in the activities, with parents and key stakeholders excitedly watching.

It was aimed at strengthening school-community relationships and promoting accountability and ownership in education. The Day served as a platform for pupils to showcase their talents through drama, poetry, art, and debate, among others, and also provided parents and community leaders an opportunity to engage directly with the school, share inspirational stories, and reinforce the values of honesty, hard work, and perseverance.

The occasion was graced by the District Chief Executive for Mamprugu Moagduri District, Abdul-Rahman Aziz, Community chiefs, Assembly members, the District Education Director, Julius Ofiori, and other key officers, SMC/PTA Executives/members, Women leaders, community members, and teachers.

Key messages from the various speakers emphasized the importance of education and parental support.

Afrikids Ghana received the applause of teachers and other stakeholders for helping to change the fortunes of some of the schools through the provision of furniture and other forms of support to promote education.

The success of the event signals a new chapter in community-led education advocacy in the district, reinforcing the belief that when schools and communities work hand-in-hand, every child can succeed.

It is on this score that the Head Teacher of Jiningsa Primary School, Isaac Asogyi, expressed gratitude to the child-centered organization for the initiative and for their efforts in improving teaching and learning in the school and the district.

“Afrikids Ghana has come to help us a lot, and there are a lot of problems that were beyond our control, and I say they have tackled the major ones. They have supported us with furniture, teaching and learning materials, so because of that teaching and learning are improving. We now also have library books to help the students improve their reading,” He said.

DESIGNS BE STUDENTS

Delighted by the display of remarkable talent by the learners, the Chief of Dabomsa, Aboglik Mahama indicated that parents were impressed and devised ways of assisting the children to nurture their talents.

“They brought the children together to display their talents, and as community leaders and parents, we were not even aware that the children had such talents, so, we will do our part at home to help them nurture their talent to become great leaders in the future.” The community Chief expressed his excitement about the Open Day.
