Supporters of Ghana’s free primary health care policy say the initiative is designed to expand access and address longstanding gaps in the health system.

During a radio discussion, Michael Nangena defended the program, stating that it goes beyond existing outreach services by integrating treatment, logistics and accessibility.

“This policy is not just about education or home visits. It includes treatment and improved access to care,” Nangena said.

He noted that the initiative complements the National Health Insurance Scheme by focusing on preventive care, shifting attention from “sick care” to maintaining overall health.

Mr Nangena added that the program will deploy motorbikes and other logistics to reach underserved communities, improving healthcare delivery in rural areas.
