The Coordinator for government’s Special Development Initiatives at the Presidency Napaga Tia Sulemana has assured of the speedy completion of some ongoing projects under her office in the Garu District of the Upper East Region.

During a tour of the Garu district to ascertain the extent of works on various projects under her office, Ms Napaga Tia noted that the projects are scheduled to be completed as planned as it forms part of government’s commitment to meeting the needs of the people.

Following the scrapping of the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, a Secretariat was established at the office of the President to serve as the coordinating unit between the three development authorities namely the Northern Development Authority, Middle Belt Development Authority and the Coastal Development Authority.

The secretariat coordinates the implementation of priority projects under an initiative called the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program (IPEP).

In the Garu District, several projects are said to be ongoing including the construction of six water closet toilets with mechanized boreholes, six mechanized solar powered water systems, construction of a butchers shop at Denugu among others.

Other initiatives in the district are the renovation of CHPS compounds, drilling of 45 boreholes, construction of 3 unit classroom blocks and a kindergarten and the establishment of a model school for girls.

Ms Napaga Tia who paid a courtesy call on the Garu Naaba in the company of the Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority Alhaji Sumaila Abdul-Rahman and District Chief Executive for Garu Musah Osman assured that no project under her secretariat ongoing in the district will be abandoned.
