Broadcast journalist, Kojo Yankson has berated Ghanaians who are justifying the inhumane treatment meted out to some residents of Ashaiman by military personnel.

Those Ghanaians, Kojo Yankson said, are dangerous and a threat to the peace and security of the country.

“I will tell whom I’m most disappointed in. It is the people of Ghana who still think the military were right to do what they did. And you see them everywhere.

Those Ghanaians are dangerous. If you’re sitting somewhere and you believe that what the military did was right, understand that your lack of understanding is a threat to our nation,” he fumed.

On March 7, 2023, armed military personnel raided the town of Ashaiman and brutalized residents in what is believed to be a retaliatory attack over the killing of a young military officer in the town.

In videos which went viral, the military personnel were seen forcing dozens of residents to roll in a pool of mud half naked  and subjecting them to torture.

While many condemned the action of the security personnel as barbaric and inhumane, some justified it, saying it was necessary to instil indiscipline in the residents and punish them over the death of the officer.

The Military also justified their action but argued that it was not targeted at innocent civilians.

But for Kojo Yankson, there is no justification for the military invasion of the town and the  brutalization of residents.

“I have encountered people who have attempted to argue with me that ‘as for the military, you don’t mess with them, you are criticising the military for what they did, how about the family of the person who died’.

But isn’t that what the police are there for? For that family? To find justice for that family? Why does the military have to go and beat innocent people before that family feel satisfied. Those innocent people, don’t they have families?”

His comments come on the back of the arrest of suspects in connections with the alleged murder of the young military officer.

The police, in a detailed press statement, disclosed that the officer was killed in a robbery attack after visiting a female friend.
