Upper East NPP’s Communications team member, Moses Amoah is calling for increased investment in Ghana’s existing healthcare system instead of introducing new initiatives.

Mr Amoah care rollout risks duplicating structures already in place under the Ghana Health Service.

He argued that the country’s Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds already provide primary care but lack adequate staffing and equipment.

“What these facilities need is retooling, not rebranding,” Amoah said.

He pointed to shortages of midwives and public health nurses in rural areas and called for improved motivation for health workers operating in remote communities.

According to him, strengthening logistics, including transportation and medical supplies, would yield better outcomes than launching new programs.

Mr Amoah said improving the effectiveness of the National Health Insurance Scheme would reduce financial burdens on patients and address many of the system’s challenges.
