It has emerged that some men who are battling hypertension fail to take their medication because of erectile dysfunction that sometimes comes as a side effect of some hypertension medications.
Many of these men lament the side effect of the medication on their sexual performance and therefore, refuse to religious take their medications as prescribed.Sexual dysfunction associated with hypertension or antihypertensive therapies may impact the ability of patients to stay on therapy and lead to deterioration in patients’ quality of life.
By refusing to take one’s medication as prescribed due to concerns of erectile dysfunction, some men virtually now choose complications and death over erectile dysfunction.
It is on this basis that Prof. Joseph Atiah Akamah, Interventional Cardiologist and Cardiovascular Epidemiologist, and leading a Member of Yaaba Medical Services is cautioning men battling hypertension against the decision not to take their medication due concerns related to erectile dysfunction.
He said such a decision will lead to complications and eventually, death. The Cardiologist is urging men battling hypertension to consult their physicians if such concerns emerge rather than failing to follow the prescription.
“Those who are already hypertensive, they should take their medicine. The men are afraid the hypertensive medicine will cause them to be impotent. Is it better to be impotent or to have a stroke? Is it better to be impotent than to have a heart failure. If you have a heart failure or a stroke, can you get and chase the woman? Can you even perform in the bed? So, check your blood pressure, take your medicine and then tell the doctor that your man is not working. They will take care of it but if you fail to take your medicine, you will have a heart failure, kidney failure and the woman will be there.” He stressed.
