Chairman of Narrative Changers, a Civil Society Organisation based in the Upper East Region wants the Office of the Special Prosecutor to launch investigation into allegations of vote-buying in the just ended presidential primary of the governing New Patriotic Party  (NPP).

Solomon George Gbenka said the OSP must invite the leading contenders in the primary as part of the investigation to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.

Some delegates, who took part in the just ended presidential primary of the NPP, admitted publicly to have received about 700 from the two leading contenders, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.

Others were also seen in videos that went viral threatening to boycott the process over the amount of money they received from the candidates or protesting  against members of the candidates’ campaign teams for hoarding monies that were meant to be given to them.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on the matter, Solomon Gbenka expressed worry over the phenomenon that has plagued elections in the country in recent times.

He noted that acts of vote-buying fuel corruption in government and will make it impossible to tackle graft in public administration if not curbed.

Mr. Solomon is particularly shocked about the brazenness with which such acts were perpetrated in the  primary.

He, therefore, wants the OSP to investigate and prosecute those found culpable so as to deter others.

“It is so worrying that people openly come out and talk about giving out money. Have we asked ourselves, where is the OSP? How was Cecilia Dapaah arrested? This was based on these kinds of speculations and think that by today being Wednesday, the OSP would have invited these leading candidates to start questioning the source of the monies they were giving to the people,” he stated.
