Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo has refuted reports that the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Sandema-Fumbisi road is in a deplorable state.

Speaking in an interview on State of Our Nation, Anthony Namoo said although construction works on the road are to yet to be completed, it is not in a bad state as widely reported.

Mr. Namoo, who disclosed that he plied the road recently, claimed it has been well compacted, making it motorable.

“Yesterday, I left here to Fumbiisi and will not agree if somebody says that the road is in a deplorable state. As a matter of fact, the contractor, I saw two machines working between Chuchuliga and Sandema, you could see that they had compacted the place very nicely”.

He said unlike previously when commuters spend long hours on the road due to its deplorable nature, they now spend less time on a journey.

“The time I estimated that it would take me, it took less. driving to Fumbiisi as I indicated some parts of the road was tarred and it has not finished. It is our wish that the road is completed but it’s not deplorable,” he said.

The 40-km road, which links the Upper East Region to its twin region, Upper West, was awarded by the erstwhile Mahama government to MyTurn Construction Limited for construction.

Work on the road had commenced but stalled at a point as result of government’s inability to honour its financial obligations to the contractor.

The dusty and bumpy nature of the road posed serious health hazards to commuters and residents, who had, on countless occasions, registered their displeasure at the government over the slow pace of work on it.

Anthony Namoo, while disputing reports that the road is in a terrible state, said construction work has resumed and is progressing steadily.

“We know that at a point in time, there was suspension of work but as at yesterday, I saw machines there working, compacting the place. They were not at the site. They were actually working on the road”.
