A former regional spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign during the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 presidential primaries, Peter Anyorkah Atohoba has dismissed suggestions that a newly emerging political movement known as “The BASE” is linked to former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.

Mr tohoba said on Dreamz FM’s Breakfast Today that the group is not an offshoot of any NPP campaign structure and is instead a separate political formation seeking registration.

He said while some individuals who previously supported Agyapong have joined the movement, the party itself is not backed by the former aspirant.

“Kennedy Agyapong is not behind the formation of the BASE political movement,” Mr Atohoba said. “They are rather calling on him to come and lead them after completing their registration process.”

The BASE movement has recently gained attention after reports that it is seeking approval from Ghana’s Electoral Commission to operate as a political party.

Mr Atohoba said the group began as a support base during the NPP’s internal primaries but has since evolved into an independent political organization. He added that its reported founders include former NPP financier Dr. George Oti Bonsu and other associates.
