Nong-Zoya Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Zanlerigu in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region has presented over 20,000 cedis worth of educational items to the Zanlerigu cluster of schools.
The donation which was made on Thursday, October 27, 2022 forms part of the organization’s annual donation to the basic schools comprising Kindergarten, primary, and Junior High.
Nong-Zoya which means to drive poverty away is an organization hoping to improve the lives of people and reduce poverty through education and women’s economic empowerment.
Since 2007, the Nong-Zoya Foundation which was founded by Mrs. Marrienne Adognaba, a Norwegian married to Abu Dognab, a native of Zanlerigu has been supporting the three schools with teaching and learning materials in a bid to improve the standard of education in the community.
Apart from supporting the schools, the organization has over the years provided microfinance support to women in the community. This has seen many women benefit and start small-scale businesses to support themselves.
This year’s donation forms part of the annual donation and saw the foundation donate various items including school uniforms, sporting equipment, textbooks, whiteboards and markers, exercise books, school bags, my first copy books, and teachers’ tables amongst other items to the three levels of basic education in the community.
Presenting the items, Nong-Zoya Foundation’s Local Coordinator David Nagbila reiterated the organization’s commitment to the improvement of education which will lead to the socio-economic transformation of people in the area.
He admonished parents to ensure their children attend school regularly.
“I’m here on behalf of the Nong-Zoya board to donate school items worth over 20, 000 including over 2000 exercise books, selected textbooks, markers, whiteboards, uniforms, and sporting equipment among others.
The foundation has been helping the community, especially in areas of education and microfinance since 2007. We believe that through education, these young ones will grow to contribute to the development of the community.
I want to add that students of the school have no excuse to fail in your exams because of this annual donation as we appeal to parents to ensure their children are always in school,” Mr. Nagbila admonished.

Cletus Abaa Assibi, Headteacher of Zanlerigu JHS who spoke on behalf of the other Headteachers expressed gratitude to the organization for the continued support. He added that the items will be put to good use.
“We are grateful to Nong-Zoya for what they have been doing because I have never seen this anywhere and we promise that we will continue to use these items well,” he said.
