The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region believes it stands a chance of winning every seat in the region.

Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Anthony Namoo said its performance in previous elections shows that it could win every seat in the region if it is united and focused.

Citing the inroads it made in the Pusiga Constituency in the last elections, he stated that with the right candidates and a vigorous campaign, the NPP could sweep the region’s parliamentary seats.

“For us, every constituency is potentially winnable and with the right candidates. So we need people who dedicate themselves and can work very hard because 2020 actually showed that if you work hard, you can win. Pusiga for instance, we had a gap of over 8,000 running into 2020 Elections and then it was closed to 63 votes,” he stated on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM.

“So if Pusiga was 8,000 and they narrowed it down to 63 votes difference and Talensi, for instance, the gap now is a little over 3,000, Builsa South is 1,600. So if people can work and narrow the gap, all things being equal, (we could those seats)”.

He, however, believes lack of vigilance on the part of party’s agents and false narratives peddled against the party and its government by the opposition National Democratic Congress in the last polls led to its defeat in most constituencies in the region.

According to him, the NDC capitalized on the stringent measures  government had put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 in 2020 and the efforts to curb illegal mining in the country to make the government and the governing party unpopular.

For the party’s defeat in constituencies like Pusiga, he blamed it on lack of vigilance by the party and its assigns.

While expressing confidence of winning more seats and increasing its presidential votes in the December Elections, the party’s regional chairman entreated members to close their ranks and work for victory for the party.
