President John Dramani Mahama says he will soon cut sod for construction of an airport in the Upper East Region.
The President made the announcement during courtesy call on him by members of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs.
The announcement comes a little over a month after a delegation from the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) inspected the site designated for the construction of the airport.
Following the inspection, the team has determined that the site is suitable for the building of such an aviation infrastructure, President Mahama said.
Funding for the building of the airport will be sourced from the Airport Infrastructure Development Levy, which was recently introduced, the President added.
He announced that, “Very soon, I will come and we will invite all of you and we will go to the site and cut the sod for the start of the construction of the airport”.
