The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) is cautioning the public against traditional medicine practitioners or herbalists who display various awards to promote their work.
To make their practice appears legitimate and recognized, some herbalists have made it a habit to display various award schemes to attract more clients.
Some of these herbalists often promote a single product as cure and treatment for various diseases and conditions.
Worried about the implications this will have on the health of people, the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) is taking steps to fish out the quack practitioners and ensure genuine practitioners are licensed.
Speaking exclusively to Dreamz News, the Acting Administrative Secretary of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council, Dr. Evelyn Abayaah-Issah, described such awards as cooked up and fictitious in an attempt to deceive the public.
She is admonishing the public to be mindful of such individuals, who brandish awards to hoodwink them.
Dr. Abayaah-Issah explained that a particular product can’t be made to cure several disease conditions.
“I am not aware of any awards that the council, which is mandated to regulate, has provided to anybody. I can’t speak to where they get their awards from, but it certainly is not from the TMPC. And they claim these medications can cure various diseases, that is why they receive such awards. It is false, and that is why we need to regulate their activities and fish out the quack practitioners.”
The Executive Secretary of the Council indicated her outfit’s readiness to reform the sector through a transparent licensing regime.
