WISDOM AHADZI, DIRECTOR TOURISM AUTHORITHY, UER.

The Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is calling for deliberate actions to promote tourism in the region.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM, Wisdom Ahadzi noted that despite the numerous tourist sites in the region, not much has been done to develop these sites and market them.

He said this while assessing the challenges inhibiting the region from reaping the full benefits of its natural attraction sites in the wake up of the latest tourist sites’ ranking which show no site in the 5 regions of the North was among the top 10 most visited.

Ahadzi observed that the region’s distance from the national capital puts it at a disadvantage in attracting tourists.

Aside from this, he noted that most places of attractions in that part of the country have not been developed and marketed thus, making them less competitive.

“our location to the capital city where the people normally arrive first of all before moving around is far. We might be getting some numbers but there’s the need to do more as I have always indicated. We at this part must be deliberate in all our actions and get everybody involved,” he stated.

He bemoaned the lack of basic amenities at these sites as he called for deliberate steps to develop and market them so as to enable the region reap their full potentials.

“We can do more to attract more visitors. I would have wished management of attraction become flexible so that private sector will come in and invest. And as I said, marketing is also a key. We must be aggressive in our marketing strategy”.
